Microsoft charges 5% to OEMs for Windows

Finally the holy information is out: Microsoft charges around five percent to OEMs for its Windows operating system. This information — which is strictly not revealed to public — was leaked by Charles Songhurst, general manager of Corporate Strategy at Microsoft at the Jefferies Annual Technology Conference. So for example you buy a PC costing $1,000, Microsoft will make $50 our of it. On the other hand if you buy a budget netbook for say $300 then Microsoft will get richer by $15.
