Intel today passed 2 billion transistor benchmark with the introduction of Tukwila quad core microprocessor. Now don't go to check your bank statement as the chip -- designed for high-end server -- will certainly rob you of your month's pay check (more than that in my case). It operates at 2GHz and uses a large number of transistors for memory. It also contains lot of onboard memory and registers.

The 65nm fabrication process based Tukwila will be shown off at the International Solid State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in San Francisco.
