Intel to launch cheaper quad core processors

The world’s largest chip maker is again flexing its monopoly muscles. Reportedly, Intel is planning to launch a new series of cheaper quad core CPUs, targeted towards SMB segment. The main reason for the development of low-priced quad core series is to counter AMD’s triple core processors. The first processor under the cheaper Core 2 Quad Q8000 series is the Q8200, with 1333MHz front side bus. The chip features 4MB second level L2 cache, and a core frequency of 2.33GHz. Intel has deliberately set the price at approx $203 (in thousand-unit quantities), so that Phenom X3, which starts at around $145 and goes up till $195, have a hard time convincing potential buyers.
