Intel to Introduce Quad-Core Chips
Intel has said that it will launch its Quad-Core chips on November 13. The processors will be available with the Hewlett-Packard workstations. The computers will probably use Intel’s planned Xeon 5300 chip, and will be designed to run high-end applications like seismic analysis and visualization technologies from Ansys, Autodesk, Landmark Graphics, and Parametric Technology. The launch means Intel will have the crucial benefit over its arch rival AMD, which is going to introduce its own Quad Core chips in the middle of 2007.
AMD claims that its monolithic design is superior to Intel’s plan, which essentially glues two dual-cores chips together.
