Intel is about to launch new processors and chipsets for the growing UMPC segment. The platform which is codenamed “McCaslin” will increase Intel’s competitiveness in ultra-portable market. Featuring 600/800 MHz speed and 512 KB L2 Cache, it reduces the power consumption thereby increasing battery life (it lasts about 4-5 hours).

Based on 90nm technology, the chipset takes 78% less space compared to the previous models. Also, more space has been left for UMPC products in the areas of micromation and functions add-in such as WiMax, GPS and TV Tuner, etc.
