Intel Core 2 Extreme X7900 and 11 Penryn 45nm processors coming
Intel is geared up for 12 new processors -- Core 2 Extreme X7900 and 11 Penryn 45nm chips -- to win back it's customers from AMD. According to Inquirer Intel today announced X7900, a successor to 2.6GHz X7800. Designed for notebooks PCs, the 2.8GHz X7900 is based 65 nm die codenamed Merom, and features 800 MHz FSB with power consumption of 44W. Now according to DigiTimes the chip giant is planning to launch five 45nm notebook processors (Penryn) in the first quarter of 2008 with another six for Montevina following in the second quarter.
With 800MHz of FSB the Penryn processors are clocked at 2.8GHz, 2.6GHz, 2.5GHz, 2.4GHz and 2.1GHz. The first three provides 6MB L2 cache while the latter two includes 3MB cache. The six Montevina chips features 1066MHz FSB, 6MB/3MB L2 cache, and 25- or 35 watt power consumption. The clock speed for Montevina varies from 2.13GHz to 3.06GHz.
