As previously reported, Intel plans to launch couple of CPUs in 2008 to go with Santa Rosa Refresh platform. The chip maker intents to announce five 45nm dual core chips, code named Penryn, for notebooks in the first half of next year. The 45nm quad core versions (called Penryn QC) are made up of two Penryn cores and features 12MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB and 45W maximum TDP. The sources of DigiTimes also confirmed that most Montevina platform notebooks will support quad core chips. They're expected to hit market around third quarter of 2008.

Getting back on dual cores, the five Penryn are modeled as 2.8GHz X9000 ($851), 2.6GHz T9500 ($530), 2.5GHz T9300 ($316), 2.4GHz T8300 ($214), and 2.1GHz T8100 ($209). As I've said earlier, the first three provides 6MB L2 cache while the latter two includes 3MB cache. Its also likely that the firm will announce six Monevina chip during the same time frame with 1066MHz FSB, 6MB/3MB L2 cache, and 25- or 35 watt power consumption. The clock speed for Montevina will vary from 2.13GHz to 3.06GHz.
