AMD to phase out single core Athlons
Advanced Micro Devices has decided to replace it's famous single core Athlon processors with five new 45W Sempron processors. The new models are - LE-1300 (2.3GHz/512KB L2), LE-1250 (2.2GHz/512KB L2), LE-1200 (2.1GHz/512KB L2), LE-1100 (1.9GHz/256KB L2), and LE-1150 (2.0GHz/256KB L2). According to Digitimes's sources, "AMD will launch Spica core CPUs with support for socket AM2+ and HyperTransport 3.0 for its single-core lineup in the first half of 2008, while in the second half, the company will launch 45nm Sargas core CPUs supporting socket AM3."
The new Sempron processors will be available from September.
