AMD planning to launch low-cost processor by year-end

amd_logo2.jpg If Intel and VIA can churn out Atom and Nano low-cost processors respectively, can AMD stay far behind? Reportedly, Advanced Micro Devices is planning to launch a low-cost processor for mini laptop market. The processor will make use of AMD's 65nm fabrication technology and will be based on its previous generation K8 architecture. According to Digitimes, it'll be a single core processor with a core frequency of 1.2GHz supporting 64-bit instructions. The firm has already started calling friends at HP, Acer, MSI and other Chinese vendors to win some orders, indicating it won't be long before we get an official word from AMD.
