AMD Bobcat to counter Intel's Atom
As Intel's Atom processor is slowly setting its feat on ground, AMD is getting sleepless nights as it continues to lag behind the world's largest chip maker. Also, its recent more than a billion dollar loss isn't shaking off company's belief that they're still very much in the game. So come November and you'll get AMD Bobcat -- AMD's answer to Intel's Atom processor. Bobcat is a single-core, 64-bit processor designed for low-cost laptops and cheap computers. It features 1GHz core clock speed, 128KB of L1 cache, 256KB of L2 cache and an 800MHz HyperTransport. Additionally, the processor's on-board memory controller will support 400MHz DDR2 chips. The AMD Bobcat consumes less than 8W power and will be unveiled in November of this year.[Via reghardware]
