Physics, it is said has all the answers to the universe. But the latest application of Physics is in a process which might help in reduce piracy. Reportedly, scientists at the University of Granada in Spain has developed a new way to distinguish between replicated and duplicated CDs based on Fraunhofer diffraction principle. The technique makes difference between original and duplicate copy pretty obvious. But the success of this method is based on different ways in which data are pressed onto the replicated CDs and burnt onto their duplicated counterparts. Basically, laser beam is bombarded on original and duplicate copy, and their diffraction patterns are compared which allows scientists to easily spot the copied and possibly counterfeited CD. This technique also works on DVDs. Scientists now intend to develop it for Blu-ray.
