Built by Everex, the 15.4-inch Zonbu notebook computer comes with Zonbu’s own operating system and decent configuration. At $279 upfront and a $14.95 monthly subscription fee, the laptop offers 20 best-of-breed software applications, free and automatic software upgrades, generous online storage, file remote access and sharing, automatic data back-up, unlimited online tech support, and free hardware replacement in case of damage. According to the firm, the main plus point of this machine is that it eliminates the need to spend any time on managing PC, or to spend money on anti-virus back-up storage or firewalls.
“We were intrigued by Zonbu’s commitment to radically simplifying the computing experience for consumers and eliminating all of the hassles,” said Everex CEO John Lin. “We’re excited to bring such an affordable and easy-to-own alternative to the market.”
The Zonbu comes with 1.5GHz VIA C7-M processor, 512MB RAM, 60GB hard drive, DVD-ROM, VIA Chrome9 HC IGP graphics (128MB), built-in speakers, 802.11b/g wireless, and 3x USB 2.0 ports. The Zonbu Notebook will be available in 2008.
