Toshiba planning laptops based on its SpursEngine graphics

toshiba_g40-spurs-engine.png It was bound to come, and now its official -- Toshiba recently announced that it'll begin shipping its multimedia notebooks (including Qosmio G40) with SpursEngine graphics chip later this year. The graphics chip is based on the technology that powers the PlayStation 3's Cell processor, so you are bound to get decent performance from it. The SE1000 packs in four of Cell's Synergistic Processing Element (SPE) cores. Cell has up to eight SPEs to handle vector data, along with a PowerPC-based general purpose computing core for everything else.
