Sony to update Vaios with Centrino 2

sony_vaio_cr-1.jpg Reportedly, Sony is planning to update its Vaio VGN SR / BZ / FW / Z / TZ / CR / AR series with Intel's latest Centrino 2 technology. All the new models are based on Montevina mobile platform and are equipped with faster 45nm Penryn processors. The 13.3-inch VGN-SR Series offers LED backlit 1280x800 screen and will be updated with ATI Mobility Radeon HD3470 graphics card (128MB), up to 4GB RAM, and Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor. The SR series starts at $1,950. The VAIO VGN-BZ is a 15.4" notebook with 2.26GHz T8400 / P8600 processor. The $1,983 laptop is also equipped with max 200GB HDD, 4GB RAM, and DVD burner.

The 16.4" VGN-FW Series is designed for media geeks with loads of processing power. The FW notebook can be customized with a Blu-ray drive, ATI HD3470 with 256MB memory, Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 / T8400 / T9400 processor, up to 4gig RAM, and 320gig hard drive. The cheapest model under FW series (without Blu-ray) costs around $1,627.

The 13.3" VGN-Z series is for mobile professionals with P8400 / P8600 processor, 4GB RAM, and 250gig HDD. The Z series starts at $2,757.

Sony is also planning to update VGN-TZ, CR, AR series, but no word on details.
