Samsung to exit netbook business!

Just a couple of years back netbook was a hot category, but it seems tablets and ultrabooks are having negative impact on netbooks. And taking this belief further, Samsung has announced that it’ll stop developing 10.1″ netbooks from Q1 2012!

The company will focus on 11.6″ and 12″ ultraportables and launch new ultrabooks in 2012, but will completely stop developing netbooks.

Here’s what Samsung has to say:

Following the introduction of our new strategy in 2012, we will stop the product range in 10.1”(Netbook) in Q1 2012 for the benefit of Ultraportables products (11.6 and 12 inches) and ultrabooks to be launched in 2012.

This may be a bad news for Intel Atom.

As for consumers, it doesn’t affect them much because tablets have started becoming affordable and ultrabooks are expected to become affordable in 2012.

In addition, there are so many AMD Fusion powered full-size laptops available for less than $400 that consumers will hardly miss netbooks.
