Microsoft Surface tablets launched
Microsoft today introduced two new tablet computers which are entirely designed and engineered by Microsoft employees. Dubbed as Microsoft Surface, one of them is based on Windows RT and another one runs Windows 8 operating system. But both of them feature similar design which is very beautiful.
Microsoft reports that the casing of Surface is created using a unique approach called VaporMg (pronounced Vapor-Mag), a combination of material selection and process to mold metal and deposit particles that creates a finish akin to a luxury watch. The unique VaporMg approach also enables a built-in kickstand that lets you transition Surface from active use to passive consumption – watching a movie or even using the HD front- or rear-facing video cameras.
It also boast of a 3mm Touch Cover which uses a unique pressure-sensitive technology to sense keystrokes as gestures, enabling you to touch type significantly faster than with an on-screen keyboard. It will be available in a selection of vibrant colors. Touch Cover clicks into Surface via a built-in magnetic connector, forming a natural spine like you find on a book, and works as a protective cover. You can also click in a 5 mm-thin Type Cover that adds moving keys for a more traditional typing feel.
The Windows RT model is based on an ARM processor and weighs just 676g and measures 9.3mm thin. It comes in 32GB and 64GB storage capacity.
On the other hand the Windows 8 model is powered by third-generation Intel Core processor and features 64GB or 128GB storage. It measures 13.5mm thick and weighs 903g.
Common features include 10.6-inch multi-touch HD display (full HD display in case of Windows 8 model), microSD card slot, WiFi and USB 2.0. Windows 8 model also provide USB 3.0 and DisplayPort.
Microsoft Surface for Windows RT will release with the general availability of Windows 8, and the Windows 8 Pro model will be available about 90 days later.
