We finally got official word on the over-hyped leather bound ThinkPad Reserve Edition laptop. The company site only shows the leather case, no actual siting. It doesn’t deserve the $5,000 price tag, if you go by the specs. For that kind of money you’d be better of with some really powerful notebook. The 12.1-inch Reserve Edition offers Santa Rosa platform, Intel Core 2 Duo L7500 processor, 2GB RAM, 160GB 5400rpm hard drive (with encryption), wireless n, Bluetooth, external USB multi-burner, external 80GB hard drive, 7 hours of battery life, and Vista Business. The main plus point of this notebook is round the clock customer service which will be available by phone, IM, or in person.
The firm claims “in most major cities around the world, an on-site warranty service will be provided within four hours. In most other locations, an on-site service will be provided by the end of the next working day. Conveniently included for three years from the time of purchase.” They also offers protection, up to total system replacement, if you accidentally damage or destroy your ThinkPad Reserve Edition IT components.
