Intel's Netbook ships as 2go PC and FTEC SmartBook

intel_netbook.jpg Now finally I've understood what actually the Netbook is! Basically its a small notebook computer for children as well as first time users, designed by Intel but built by various PC manufacturers. Unlike ASUS, who's the exclusive maker of Eee PC, Intel will sell its laptop design to various computer makers, who'll in turn sell them under different brands.

Basic specification of all Netbook monikers remains the same: 7- or 9-inch LCD screen, Intel Celeron M ULV processor, 915GMS chipset, 512MB RAM, 802.11b/g WiFi, a USB 2.0 port, SD / MMC reader, water-resistant keyboards, and Linux / Windows XP operating system. Additionally, the 7-inch model is equipped with a 40GB hard drive, while the 9" version packs 2GB flash memory (sad, no?), integrated webcam, and optional theft control feature. According to Engadget, both of them are available in Malaysia as FTEC SmartBook for $377 and $409 respectively.

In America, the Netbook will retail as 2go PC (manufactured by CTL) for about $400 from May end.
