• India working on $10 laptops

You think $175 OLPC is cheap? Then how will you react to a $10 laptop? Indian government is planning a $10 computer for under-privilege school children. Actually India’s HRD ministry rejected OLPC’s offer for $175 PCs. They claims the cost is encouraging and we are hopeful it would come down to $10. We would also look into the possibility of some Indian company manufacturing the parts. If you ask me then it’s almost impossible to provide such a cheap lappie to children unless you offer high subsidy. And another major hurdle will be Indian bureaucracy who never delivers what it claims. Indian government is unable to provide primary education to poor children, and you think they’ll give $10 PCs? It might become a reality but only if private sector comes into picture.
