If Notebook Italia is to be believed (generally they're pretty accurate) then Hewlett-Packard is planning to take on every major laptop maker by announcing approximately twelve new notebooks, so there's something for everyone. The world's number one laptop maker is planning to update it's Compaq Presario, Pavilion and HDX line up. HP G7000 (pictured below) and Compaq Presario [CP] C700 are similarly specced with Santa Rosa platform, while HP G6000 (pictured above) and CP F500 are based on AMD chips. All four of them comes with 15.4-inch widescreen display and budget price tag, so could be a good buy if you're tight on bills. Lets start with HP G7000 / CP C700. Both of them can be customized with Intel Core 2 Duo [T7250 / T7100 / T5450 / T5250] or Celeron M [550 / 540 / 530] processor. Other specs includes up to 2GB RAM, GMA X3100 graphics, max 160GB hard drive, dual layer DVD burner, a/b/g wireless, and Vista.

HP G6000 and CP F500 are based on Nvidia C51MV chipset and AMD Turion / Athlon / Sempron processor. Most of the specs remains same except over here max storage is reduced to 120GB and graphics support comes in the form of GeForce Go 6100.

The 15.4-inch Compaq Presario V6600 and 14.1-inch V3600 are similar to HP Pavilion dv2600 and dv6600 respectively. Both of them provides up to 2GB RAM, max 250GB hard drive, a/b/g/n wireless, Bluetooth, and Vista. The first one is a unique machine as it can be configured with Intel or AMD processor. The Intel version comes with Santa Rosa platform and Core 2 Duo / Core Duo chip, while the AMD version is based on Nvidia MCP67M chipset and AMD Turion / Athlon processor. The V3600 is an Intel computer with Celeron / Core Duo / Core 2 Duo processor and Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS or Intel GMA X3100 graphics.
