Anxious that if your laptop gets stolen you’ll face much more than simple financial loss? Here’s a new notebook computer that solves this problem. The new FMV-LIFEBOOK model FMV-S8390 notebook PC for enterprise customers is equipped with the CLEARSURE technology, allowing data stored on the PC’s hard disk drive to be deleted remotely in the event of loss or theft.

Through a custom communications module built into the PC, CLEARSURE uses the PHS network to allow all data stored on the PC’s HDD to be deleted remotely. If the PC is within the communication range of the PHS network, data can be deleted even when the PC has been switched off, enabling advanced security functionality that allows commands to be executed regardless of the PC’s operational state.
    Specification:

    • Intel Core 2 Duo / Celeron processor
    • 1GB RAM
    • 13.3″ widescreen LCD
    • an encrypted 160GB HDD
    • battery runtime of up to 10.5 hours
    • DVD burner
    • Windows Vista Business

The new PC will be available from early September in Japan for $2,291.
