Dell XPS 1730 laptop coming on 27 August


JSWeyth, a member of French forum "LesDeLLiens.com" has revealed information of Dell's latest XPS system. The XPS 1730 is a powerful media notebook based on Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz) / T7500 (2.2GHz) / T7700 (2.4GHz) / X7800 (2.6GHz) processor. I guess it'll be the first machine to pack Intel's latest Core 2 Extreme X7800 mobile processor. Other features includes Nvidia GeForce Go 8600M GS graphics card with 256MB memory, up to 4GB RAM, max 1GB Intel Turbo Memory, Blu-ray drive, b/g/n wireless, and Bluetooth. It's expected to be released on 27 August.

    This doesnt seem like that great for gaming... the geforce 8600 is a weaker card than the 7950 which they offered in the 1710 (which still gave stuttering performance in some of the newer games, for example supreme commander...) The rest seems to be a bit better than the 1710 though. But why cant they just use the 8800 cards for mobile use yet? Its been out for a year already and still no laptop is fitted with it...

    According to someone with a service manual it will have the option for 2 x 8700M GT in SLI plus a built in physics processor.

    Gerard is correct it offers dual video cards with the ageia physics processor. Working for Dell I get the opportunity to play with this thing and it kicks ass. The 1730 will be replacing the 1710, side by side the 1710 doesn't even come close.

    Just received an offer from Dell for a 1730 with a particular configuration.25 Aug.Told that general release will be 7 days.Appears to be a good machine that is DOG UGLY even my 14 year old son agrees.Time for the Product Manager to update his/her resume.(Marketing Director also.)
