It seems Dell is interested in bridging the gap between netbooks and ultraportables. Otherwise why would it work on a 12-inch netbook, which is way less powerful than some traditional
12.1-inch ultraportable laptops or an
11-incher for that matter. According to news reports, after launching it's first netbook --
Inspiron 9 -- Dell started working on another netbook computer with a 12-inch widescreen display. So what's the major difference between traditional netbook and Dell's 12-inch netbook? Well, unlike typical netbooks which are powered by 1.6GHz Intel's Atom processor, the Inspiron 12 will be based on Atom Z520 or Z530 chip. Another major improvement is in the form connectivity. The Inspiron 12 will sport optional 3G WWAN with built-in SIM card reader placed behind the battery. Other features include 1GB DDR2 RAM, Bluetooth, 1.3 mega pixel webcam, Ethernet, WiFi, three USB 2.0, VGA out, audio in/out, memory card slot, and 3-cell or 6-cell batteries.
