Acer to launch a low cost Eee PC killer

acer_logo.gif These days ASUS' Eee PC has become a new benchmark for computer makers who are planning to unveil a 7- / 8-inch ultra portable laptop. The latest to join the list of Eee PC competitors is Acer. According to reports, Acer plans to launch low-cost notebooks available with 8- and 9-inch displays late in the first quarter or early second quarter of this year.

The company will purchase LCD panels from AU Optronics (AUO) and outsource the production of its low-cost notebooks to Wistron. As it is meant to be an Eee PC killer, the pricing will be truly competitive.
