Acer not quitting netbook segment
Though Samsung has decided to quit netbook business because of stiff competition to tablets PCs, Acer has no such plan. In fact Acer vice president Scott Lin recently said that Acer netbooks are doing really well in emerging markets like China and India so there’s no reason why they should quit netbook business.
He further mentioned that though netbook business is running at a low profit margin, large volume shipments to India, China and Indonesia more than makes up for overall profit.
Acer is currently the largest netbook player in the world with sales of more than 1.7 million units in the third quarter, accounting for 22% of the market.
