Samsung kicks out 15.4, 30, and 40-inch LED-backlit displays

Samsung Electronics has launched three displays at Int'l Conference and Exhibition on Display LEDs. The 30-inch (pictured above) sports 2560 x 1600 pixel (WQXGA) resolution, 16.7M colors, 300cd/m2 brightness, 6ms response, 180 degrees viewing angle, 900:1 contrast ratio, and 111% of color gamut. The 40-inch LE40M91 boosts 500 cd/m2 brightness, 180 degrees viewing angle, sub standard 1366 x 768 resolution, and ultra high 100,000:1 contrast ratio. The high contrast is due to the use of "local dimming" LEDs; a process whereby the backlighting is effectively shut off in dark areas to generate true black.
On the smaller scale (5.8-mm thinness), company introduced a 15.4" monitor capable of 1440 x 900 resolution, 262k colors, 330cd/m2 brightness and 45% color gamut.
