Philips announces 22-inch 3D monitor
Philips has released a 22" 3D monitor that requires no special glasses to enjoy 3D experience. The 22-inch widescreen display is powered by Philips' exclusive WOWvx technology to provide 3D-like images without requiring users to wear special viewing glasses. The monitor provides 1680 x 1050 WSXGA resolution, 300cd/m2 brightness, 16:10 aspect ratio, 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 5 ms response time.
So how does it provide 3D experience without glasses?
The WOWvx uses Philips' internal 2D-plus-Depth (the 2D image and its depth map) format and combines it with the Declipse format developed especially for autostereoscopic 3D displays such as this one. Declipse provides additional "background" information for a more realistic 3D effect.
No word on pricing, but the display is expected to be available from the fourth quarter of this year.
