LG to roll out widescreen panels for low-cost notebooks
Looks like LG wants to cash-in on the growing trend of mini laptops. Reportedly, LG Display is planning to release widescreen panels specifically designed for low-cost notebooks later this year. The main reason for this strategic decision is the growing popularity of cheap mini notebooks that doubles as a secondary machine for mobile pros.
According to Digitimes, LG will start making 8.9-inch widescreen panels (for Acer and HP), with a resolution of 1024×600, at its 5G line in August 2008. It'll then roll out a 10.1-inch panel with resolution of 1024×576 and an aspect ratio of 16:9 in October, and a 9.4-inch widescreen panel in April 2009.
