NEC monitors to be powered by solar energy

nec-solar-lcd.jpgLike many major companies, NEC is also worried about global warming, and the green house effects. So to reduce the environmental damages, it's offering a solar-powered system to power your monitors. The system is totally compatible with the entire line of its desktop monitors. NEC has teamed up with Carmanah Technologies to reduce your electricity bills, and environmentally harmful emissions. The system stores enough solar energy to continue powering the monitor after the sun checks out. The company claims that "saved solar energy can last for days of normal usage when running a typical LCD monitor." The system will produce about 293 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, or 800 watts per day. It can also be used to power multiple monitors simultaneously. NEC vice president of engineering, technical and environmental services Richard Atanus said that,"the batteries have a life expectancy of over 20 years, depending on the number of cycle times, and a panel life of 50 or more years, so the investment return is considerable."
