Intel to delay implementation of USB 3.0 on its chipsets till 2011
While all mainstream motherboard makers have now started adopting faster USB 3.0 technology, the world's largest chip maker is going on a different track. Reportedly, Intel is intentionally delaying implementation of USB 3.0 tech on its chipsets. No word on the reason behind it, but if the monopolist giant doesn't mend its way and starts offering its large consumer base with a better, faster option then most of the users will not even hear about the USB 3.0, forget about benefiting from high speed of USB 3.0.
When the USB 3.0 was showcased at IDF recently, the chip giant had planned to sample chipsets supporting USB 3.0 in early 2010, but now due to unreported reason it has shifted its plans out a year.
Meaning until Intel starts rolling out chipsets with USB 3.0, the new technology will be only limited to high-end motherboards.
Ultimately, mainstream consumers might have to wait till 2011 before they can benefit from USB 3.0.
