Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 brands launched. Firm to phase out Centrino

Intel today revealed a new branding strategy under which it plans to phase out Centrino brand, and bring in Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 brands. According to the chip giant, this marketing exercise is basically designed to simplify brand Intel. The firm believes its current brand structure regarding different platforms and processors is far too complex. So in order to simplify its brand structure Intel plans to bring in three Core brands: Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7. So kiss final goodbye to familiar Core terms such as Core 2 Duo, and Core 2 Quad.
So what’s gonna be final outcome? Well from now on, Celeron and Pentium are for basic affordable computing, Atom is for netbooks and likes, Core i3 is for entry-level, Core i5 is for mid-level, and Core i7 is for high-level.
You can think in terms of good-better-best with Celeron being good, Pentium better, and the Intel Core family representing the best the firm have to offer.
Wondering what’s gonna happen to familiar Centrino name? The Centrino name will become the new name for Intel’s WiFi and WiMAX wireless product lines beginning in 2010.
