If Digitimes is to be believed then Intel plans to use its monopoly muscle to push out NVIDIA Ion chipsets. According to industry sources, Intel recently directed PC manufacturers to choose only Intel chipsets if they plan to use Atom processor. If Intel doesn’t relent then it would be very difficult for NVIDIA to push its Ion processor, which reportedly features GeForce 9400M graphics processor and Intel Atom CPU. Under the existing scheme, Intel will only sell Atom CPUs and corresponding chipsets in a bundle, so it would be very difficult for manufacturer to obtain Atom chip. In that case, NVIDIA Ion platform will become too expensive for most applications. On its side Intel said its in no mood for a partnership with NVIDIA.
