Fujitsu may sell hard drive business to Western Digital

Reportedly, Japan’s Fujitsu is thinking about selling its loss-making hard drive business to United States’ Western Digital. “We are exploring various possibilities for our HDD business,” a Fujitsu spokesman said. It could be a winning deal for both parties involved as Fujitsu’s balance sheet will see less of red, while Western Digital could well become the world’s leading hard drive manufacturer. The main reason why Fujitsu is planning to sell its hard drive unit is that its a complete loss making venture. According to Japan’s Nikkei, Fujitsu is planning to sell all of its plants, including those in Japan, Philippines and Thailand, for a price ranging between $660 million and $950 million.
