Western Digital announces new hard drives

Western Digital has unveiled two new series of hard drives - GreenPower family and My Book Dual-drive. The first one is an environment friendly hard drive with up to 1TB storage capacity. The firm claims GreenPower family of desktop, enterprise, CE and external hard drives will save up to 40% in hard drive power consumption, or as much as $10 per drive per year. I am sure all environmentalists will love this drive as it's power savings equates to reducing CO2 emission by up to 60 kilograms per drive per year - the equivalent of taking your car off the road for 14 days each year. The 3.5-inch drive comes in 320GB to 1TB capacities and will be available by the third quarter of 2007. WD has also planned eco-friendly version of it's Caviar GP (out now) and Scorpio drives.
WD also announced that all models of its My Book dual-drive storage appliances are now available in capacities up to 2TB. The unique remote-access of WD's My Book World Edition II storage appliance offers users a surprisingly simple and secure way to access and share data, photos, and music at home, in the office, and anywhere in the world - even when their local computer is off. The 2TB capacity is now available on WD's My Book World Edition II, My Book Pro Edition II, and My Book Premium Edition II models with price ranging from $749 to $799.
