Toshiba developing 512GB SSD, says 25% laptops will have SSD in 3 years

toshiba_president.jpgDuring a recent Japanese seminar, Toshiba's President, Shozo Saito, forecast that 25% of all notebook PCs will be equipped with an SSD in 2011. Yeah, that's a big proposition considering the high price of SSDs today, but if all these firm start churning out high capacity flash drive for reasonable price, then I am sure Toshiba President's forecast will come true. So what's Tosh's strategy for this growing segment? It aims at enhancing production capacity and reducing costs through miniaturization and maltivaluing. Currently Toshiba offers up to 128GB SSDs, but the firm is plans to upgrade their offering to 512GB SSD in near future. If that sounds good, read this -- Toshiba will lower manufacturing cost for NAND flash memory on a capacity basis by 40 to 50% every year on average.
