Samsung has cranked two new 2.5-inch hard drives. The M5 comes in 160 GB storage capacity, while the dual-disk model is under development that will provide up to 250GB storage. The M5 hard drives feature a 5,400rpm spin rate, 1.5Gbps SATA interface and 8MB cache memory. Based on perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology, the drives are fifteen-percent quieter and use five-percent less energy than other models with the same storage capacity.

The MP1 is also a 2.5-inch 7200 rpm drive but includes 200GB storage and a SATA 3.0Gbps interface. It provides industry’s highest storage density in it's segment. To protect the disk drive from vibration and shock, a rotary vibration controller (RVC) and an optional digital free-fall sensor (FFS) have been implemented. The mass production of both is scheduled for May.
