Nanochip has found a novel way -- using nano-technology -- that could one day enable us to pack terabytes of data per chip set. The firm is currently developing the next generation of removable, portable memory chips for consumer, computer, and server applications that will store tens of Gigabytes per chip. Nanochip uses MEMs technology along with arrays of atomic force probe tips to write, read, and record data bits on a continuous storage medium.
The company recently received funding of $14 million to complete work on a 100 GB storage chip; the 100GB chip could go into production as early as 2009. As for future plans, Nanochip said "the technology has a growth path that will give single memory chip of greater than 1 TB per die."
