Mtron unveils new SSD with next-gen 260MB/s controller technology

mtron_minipci-expresscard.jpg The South Korean SSD major Mtron today revealed its next-generation 260MB/s controller technology which reportedly increases speed and performance. The latest technology is an 8-channel system, improved from current 4-channel system. So how fast is the new technology? Well, the current technology provides maximum read/write speed of 130/120MB/s, while the 8-channel system boast of read/write speed of 260/240MB/s(based on SLC) and random write IOPS 8,000(4KB). According to Mtron, it is twice faster than current controllers and the fastest speed in the current SSD market by far.

Mtron plans to launch three SSD products based on this new technology -- Mtron SSD Express Card, Mini PCI-E Card for mobile devices, and Mtron XTM 7500 solid state disk for highly specialized industries such as aviation, military, and medical industry.

The Mtron SSD Express Card and Mini PCI-E Card deliver maximum read/write speed of 110/65MB/s, and runs its own software for OS installation and booting. Based on Mtron’s innovative technology, these new products are not limited to the current HDD standard sizes, and therefore can be applied in various forms and sizes for different devices and usage.

The Mtron SSD XTM 7500 with 128GB storage capacity is good for use in extreme environment as it provides excellent stability and performance under a wide range of temperature (-45℃ to 90℃). In May, this product proved its strong protection against extreme temperature, shock, and vibration when it was chosen as the primary storage for NASA’s Anita Project.

The SSD will be available on the market in August while other products will come in early 2009.
