Western Digital working on 20,000 RPM Raptor Hard Drive

The growing popularity of superfast solid state disks is giving nightmares to traditional hard drive manufacturers. So to counter the highly efficient SSDs, Western Digital is planning to release a 20,000 rpm version of it’s Raptor hard drive. The 2.5″ drive is very similar to recently released VelociRaptor, and will come in a custom 3.5-inch housing.
Sure, 20,000rpm means loads of power, but very few people will be able to afford such kind of drives. Mostly, it’ll be used in high-end industries where access time is prime concern. But as research progresses in the SSD segment, they are going to be much more faster in the future, and its a battle which hard drives are destined to lose. Also, as the pricing for SSD decreases, they’ll become more and more attractive to advanced PC user.
The 20,000RPM Raptor drive is still under development, so not much is known except that it features some new housing technology to reduce heat and noise.
