WD RE3 500GB and My Book Mirror Edition 2TB hard drives announced

Western Digital today released two new hard drives, the RE3 and the My Book Mirror Edition. The unique thing about the My Book Mirror Edition is that it comes with RAID 1 configuration, meaning the drive stores two copies of your data so that you can recover the data if something goes wrong. The mirroring functionality of RAID is simply awesome, its so reliable that if you work on critical data whose reliability is paramount then you gotta configure your drive with RAID 1 as it makes it easy to recover the lost data. Also, you can configure the Mirror Edition with RAID 0 (Stripping), which reduces access time to a great extent.
The drive is designed without a fan for whisper-quiet operation and consume approximately one-third less power than standard dual-drive external storage systems.
The Western Digital RE3 SATA hard drive is designed for use in data centers. According to the company, the drive enhance vibration and shock tolerance and deploy new electronics to increase performance approximately 20 percent and by as much 60 percent in high-vibration environments. It features 1.2 million hours MTBF, native command queuing (NCQ), time limited error recovery (TLER), and an extensive and enhanced testing process to ensure long-term reliability for demanding enterprise applications.
The RE3 boast of Multi-axis shock sensor that automatically detects subtlest shock events and compensates to protect the data. It is also equipped with third-generation dynamic fly height for real-time adjustment of read-write head.
The WD My Book Mirror Edition with 1TB is priced at $290 while the 2TB model goes for $550. The pricing for RE3 is as follows: $119 (500GB), $89 (320GB) and $79 (250GB).
