Toshiba launches 3TB hard drive

Toshiba has released a new family of advanced 3.5-inch HDDs that bring multi-terabyte capacities to the consumer space. There are a total of 12 models with four of them offering 3TB capacities, complemented by models offering 2TB and 1.5TB levels of storage. Few of the models offer 6Gb/s SATA interface, 64MB buffer, and 7200PRM spindle speed; while few other sport 32MB buffer and spindle speed of 5700RPM or 5940RPM.

All the new Toshiba drives feature ”Silent seek mode” which performs data seek much more quietly. It reduces noise by 1 dB and 2 dB compared to normal mode for products with three and two disks, respectively. This feature is highly suited to viewing music with noise reduction in quiet environments.

Toshiba reports that the new drives are also compatible with the European Union’s RoHS directive on the elimination of six hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
