Samsung SpinPoint S166 hard drive series
Samsung Electronics has unveiled a new series of ultra silent and high-speed hard disk drives. The 3.5-inch 7200 rpm drives are available in 80/120 GB capacity and features Serial ATA 3.0 Gbps interface. The 120GB (HD161HJ) and one 80GB (HD082GJ) version sports 8MB of buffer while another 80GB (HD081GJ) model gets 2MB. The series boost upgraded versions of SilentSeekTM and NoiseGuardTM technologies to accelerate operational speed while reducing noise. The drives generate about 24db noise in idle mode and 27.5db in seek mode.
It also includes fly-height control technology for better read and write sensitivity, and upgraded system-on-chip (SoC) controller for thermal, disk data transfer speed, and power consumption enhancements. The drives are expected to be available this month.
