    Ever seen an optical drive that integrates solid state technology? Welcome to the world of Hitachi-LG Data Storage Inc. HLDS’s newest product — the HyDrive — is the world’s first solid state drive embedded ODD. The HyDrive does wonders for laptop computers wherein space can be saved by making use of this drive so that notebook user not only get a standard DVD burner but also an SSD where they can store system and application data.


    The first generation of the HyDrive provides 32GB and 64GB storage capacity but the second generation drive which will come in next year would boast 256GB and SATA 6.0Gbps interface.
    What’s more, this drive also support Blu-ray! The Hydrive is able to read BD-ROM-R/RE (SL/DL) at 4.8x, DVD-ROM (SL /DL) at 8x, DVD+R/-R/RW at 8x, and DVD+R/-R DL at 6x. On the other hand writing speeds are 8x for DVD+R/-R/RW, 4x for DVD+R/-R DL and 24x for CD-R/RW.
    The HyDrive will be available in August.
