Hitachi 7K1000 1TB HDD
Hitachi has launched Deskstar 7K1000, a high capacity hard drive that can pack 1TB of data. Earlier today, we saw the introduction of Seagate’s 3.5″ 1TB HDD which will compete with Hitachi’s new drive. By using perpendicular recording technology, Hitachi was able to achieve this density. It’s available with SATA II or PATA 133, a 32MB buffer, and a 7200rpm spindle speed. Priced at $400, these drives are expected to hit the market in Q1 of this year. The company also introduced the CinemaStar 7K1000 that features Smooth Stream Technology to optimize the drive for audio/video applications requiring reliable storage. It will be available in Q2.
