• Fujitsu To Offer Flash Disks

  • fujitsu_logo.jpgFujitsu is soon going to replace the standard hard drive with the flash memory drive in the computers. The company has already made available its flash memory with 16GB and 32GB capacity with new B-series machines due on sale in Japan later this month and Q-series machines that will be available from early November. By replacing the standard hard drive with the flash memory we can reduce the weight of PC and we can save energy beacause it uses less power and gives longer battery life. As the data can be accessed from the flash memory much faster than a hard-disk drive, the machines with flash memory takes much less time (19 seconds) in getting started with Windows XP Home Edition as compared to standard PC (32 seconds).

The disks are made by Samsung and can already be found in two Samsung machines, the Q30 laptop Q1-SSD ultra-mobile PC. The company is also offering a hard-disk drive that automatically encrypts data as an option with the B-series machines. The drive, produced by Seagate, uses hardware to encrypt all data being written on the drive and decrypt data as it is read. It will add £68 to the price of the computers.
The 16GB version will cost you £360 and 32GB model is priced at £720.
