NVIDIA GeForce 8 Series GPUs to gain PhysX support via software download
I can see a big smile on GeForce 8 series graphics cards' owners. And why not, its certainly a big news for any Nvidia gamer who currently owns 8-series GPU. Reportedly, one of the first thing on the NVIDIA's mind after the acquisition of Ageia is to enable their GPUs with PhysX support, so that true gaming fan can get realistic feeling during hard-core gaming session.
According to Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, all CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) enable cards (including GeForce 8 series) will be able to run PhysX after a software download. He said, "our expectation is that this is gonna encourage people to buy even better GPUs. It might—and probably will—encourage people to buy a second GPU for their SLI slot. And for the highest-end gamer, it will encourage them to buy three GPUs. Potentially two for graphics and one for physics, or one for graphics and two for physics."
No word on the availability, but I doubt press release is far away.
