• AMD’s Crossfire X technology gets benchmarked

A new technology from AMD camp will soon hit the gaming rigs which will allow multi-GPU setups. The Crossfire X supports two, three or four GPUs on an appropriate motherboard with a special Catalyst driver installed. Hexus played with different GPU setups — a single Radeon HD 3870, Radeon HD 3870 X2, single-GPU 3870 X2, and finally, with two 3870 X2s. They benchmarked five games at 1,920×1,200 and 2,560×1,600 with high degrees of image quality, to put the onus on the graphics sub-system rather than the CPU.

The site reports, “it’s difficult to give firm buying advice with such a nascent technology. What we can say for now is that CrossFireX opens up new, flexible avenues for potential upgrades in the HD 3800-series family.” Sounds good enough to me.
