Acer awarded contract to build a supercomputer for Taiwan

Reportedly, Acer has been awarded a contract for building a supercomputer for Taiwan. The contract in question was awarded by Taiwan’s National Center of High-performance Computing (NCHC). The supercomputer is expected to be complete by March 2011 and will be placed in NCHC’s centre at Taichung, Central Taiwan.
The supercomputer will offer High-Performance Computing (HPC) services to a wide range of research and industrial customers in Taiwan.
The Acer supercomputer will have over 25,000 processing cores, more than 70TB of memory and over 1.1PB of storage capacity.
Acer is further aiming for a place in top 50 of the TOP500 fastest supercomputers in the world.
